Ryan Sleeps Through His First Big Earthquake

You may have heard that we had a little rumbler out here tonight. It was a 5.6 centered about 45 minutes south of here. No damage, no injuries but its getting a ton of press. Go figure.

The whole time Ryan remained safe and sound in his crib and didn't make a sound.

Boo at the Zoo - Part II

One of the great things about the Bay Area is that between Oakland and San Francisco, you get two of a lot of things.  Today, we went to our second Boo at the Zoo festival at the Oakland Zoo.  It was our first time there and were really impressed.  For elephant feeding time, they set out pumpkins like and Easter egg hunt.  They did a great job of finding them.

It was a lot warmer in the East Bay today than in SF.  So this is as close as we came to actually wearing the peacock suit today.

So we decided to improvise a bit and gave Ryan a chance to explore grass up close and personal.

Here's a bonus picture from yesterday for another look at our son the bird.  The rest are up on Smugmug.

Boo at the Zoo

Halloween is here!!! Today we went to the San Francisco Zoo for their "Boo at the Zoo" festival. It was a wonderful day. They decorate the whole zoo, set up trick or treat stations for kids and have Disney Radio there for entertainment. I had a great day of photography - mostly of the tigers - that I'll share on the smugmug page. Lisa got to see her beloved lemurs, and Ryan got tons of complements on his costume. We even had a stranger ask to take his picture :)

Even the animals get in on the fun - the zoo gives them their own jack-o-lanterns full of treats.

Ryan looked absolutely adorable dressed as a peacock.

We tried to get a picture of him with a real peacock. Belive it or not, wild animals can actually be LESS cooperative than babies.

Lisa likes the costume because she can used it to hide from my camera. I had to include this picture to show the full effect of the costume.

Lunch at Bay Street

Some work folks and I decided to head to Emeryville for lunch to meet Lisa and Ryan at Bay Street.

We actually got the chance to get a couple pictures taken of the three of us together. I think this is only the second time we've done this (and the first time Lisa has let me post one ).

Ryan also got to meet Michelle from the lab.

To cap off a busy day of socializing, Ryan got a chance to meet Kristi, also from ACSO, while were out for our walk. Of course, I was unprepared and without a camera. I probably could have run home to get one because at first, she really didn't want to give him back.

I'm Ready for My Closeup

I don't kow what to say about this one. Ryan just seems to know when the camera is on him. That might be because its with me all the time but I'm not sure.

Whose Crib Is It Anyway

Since Ryan is just about too big for the basinette in the Pack n' Play we were getting his crib ready for him this afternoon. However, there seems to be another member of the family that thinks it's her bed. We're not too worried though. Our guess is that she'll concede the crib and just take over the newly vacated Pack n' Play.

My Best Friend

We have no idea what Ryan may have stepped in (particularly since he can't walk :) but for some reason, Igor thought his feet had a pretty good taste to them. (No dogs or babies were harmed to capture this picture).

Sittin' in the Bumbo, Playin' with the Toys

Ryan has been trying out the Bumbo lately.  He really enjoys the new perspective on the world.  We set him up in front of his play mat to see his toys in a different light.  He definitely got into it.

Big Smile

He's definitely learned how to stretch those cheeks - especially with a mobile overhead.

Ryan at 2500 Feet

We took Ryan on a little hike this weekend up to the top of Mt. Tamalpais. It has fantastic views of the entire Bay Area. Lisa insisted on being the baby wearer for the day. He slept for the most part except for a quick feeding at the top of the mountain.

When we tell most of you that we live in Emeryville, the most common response is, "Where's that." I used the height of the mountain to give you a better idea. Sorry that I didn't correct for the exposure between the two pictures.

We Survived!!!

Ryan had his two month check up today. In addition to receiving a clean bill of health from the Doctor, he had to endure round one of vaccinations. Two in one leg, one in the other, and one orally. He took it like a champ with just a couple of tears.

In addition, we have his new stats: he's short ( 22 1/2 in.), fat (13 lbs. 8.4 oz.), and has a big melon (16 1/4 in.).

I Love My Mommy

I wanted to take some pictures of Ryan in his favorite pajamas for his Mommy. All was fine until.....

Ryan had a little bit of a sneezing problem.

A couple random pics

For this one I was trying to keep Ryan distracted since he's still not a big fan of diapers changes. I was impressed with his ability to kick his foot up that high.

An authentic smile captured in a picture. He's really getting into people touching his face.

Ryan is Two Months Old

We got Ryan a little dressed up to go to the Sonoma Harvest Fair. It was his first wine tasting event so we thought he should look good.

The fair also had a petting zoo. Another first for the kid. Truth be told, I think Mommy had more fun than he did.

In the middle of all the other activities, I grabbed a different lens to try out this weekend (50mm f/1.8 for those who care). These are couple that I am happy with so far.

I wanted to take Ryan to see the Blue Angels fly today but he wasn't quite in the mood. I managed to take about 500 pictures of them though. Most are going to get tossed but some will be up on the smugmug site when I get a chance.

Eight Weeks

Ryan is a whole eight weeks old today. So, I tried to take a couple "portraits". It worked well for a couple minutes but.....

Then he got a little sleepy.

We also got his new stats today: 12 lbs. 15 oz.; 22.5 inches.

Peaceful

I finally had some time to do a little black and white work. I really like how Ryan was relaxing on Lisa's shoulder.

Baby in the Mirror

Ryan has been working really hard on holding his head up lately. He's actually becoming interested in who that little baby is looking back at him.
